April 27, 2010

Ben used to be obsessed with climbing up and down the steps to the house refusing to come inside without hysterics.

But then one day (maybe a few weeks ago?) I unlocked the door and let him pull the key out. He was thrilled and looks forwards to helping lock and unlock the door every time we go out. No more crying when it's time to come inside!

Ben and I visited the Play Palace again today-- less crowded, still fun. He even ventured into the bouncy castle to retrieve a ball. Here he is in a play house... or maybe it's a store. Ben was a big fan of this one since there were a lot of things to open and close- the windows, the doors, some kind of tray thing-- and he could move around it easily since there was always something for him to hold onto.

April 25, 2010

For Ben's birthday, we got him a beach tent to use this summer. Ben doesn't like the wind, so it was the perfect hide out today.

He had so much fun sitting in his tent that he didn't want to go see the water and kept crawling back to it. I think he thought it was like a huge laundry basket.

Our adventure at Kerrisdale Carnival Days continues. Today the Play Palace was open and it was free! Ben and Rick played there, while I shopped at the GapKids down the street. :P

This was our first time at the Play Palace and here Ben is in the toddler area. They had play houses, climbers, slides, bouncy castles, and this fun ramp thing that reminded me of that those hills at miniature golf... Ben loved that climber the best. Since it was a hit with the Benjamin, I think we'll be going back many times over the summer. Fun, fun, fun.

In Kerrisdale they're having "Kerrisdale Carnival Days," a lovely 2 day event that has sidewalk sales, carriage rides, balloons, face painting, parades, food, and a bunch of other stuff so says a poster I read... except most of it's tomorrow. There were a couple of people selling food so Ben and I partook in the delicious deep fried goods.

Here Ben is having a corndog. We also had a "rice ball" which in the middle was meat spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese, surrounded by rice, and then fried-- I was fascinated.

April 22, 2010

So today was sunny and my plan was to take Ben to the beach this afternoon. On our way there, I went a different way than usual (as in I forgot to turn) and happened upon this magnificent playground/off-leash dog park that overlooks a marina! Amazing.

Ben is sitting on this digger/excavator/backhoe, which he thankfully did not fall off of while I took the picture. He wasn't really interested in playing with it though and frankly neither was I because it required way too much coordination and it was crazy heavy.

April 21, 2010

Ben in a laundry basket!

If there's an empty one around, Ben (and Smudge) love to hang out in them. Ben and I have come up with this game where I smoosh my face into the side and he pushes me away... yeah, that's pretty much it, but Ben loves it and laughs hysterically, so it's a good game in my book.

April 20, 2010

This morning Smudge took himself on a walkabout while we were all playing in the backyard, so Ben and I ventured to the front to see if we could find him. It was overcast and windy, so the streets were sprinkled with pink cherry blossom petals!

Ben did an awesome job standing by himself for this picture... not that he really enjoyed being let go of, but he is much more agreeable to the whole standing alone thing when he has his shoes on.

Oh and Ben apparently can now kick a ball-- I have to hold his hands of course, but he totally swings his leg back and kicks. It only took one day! Must be all that watching soccer on tv with Dad. Who says tv is bad for babies... pshaw.

April 19, 2010

Today the pediatrician asked if Ben could kick a ball.

Uh do a what now?

So after our appointment, I took Ben outside to see if he could indeed kick a ball.

If he's holding my hands, Ben tries to step on the ball and it sometimes rolls forward, does that count?

Hey look, there's Ipo!

Beach, beach, sandy beach, feel the sand on your feet...

We took Ben for a picnic at the beach today. Ben had so much fun playing with shells in the water, splashing around, pretending to eat sand to see if I was paying attention...

Ben recent interest in water makes me think swimming lessons would finally be something fun for us to do. Hm...

Poor Benjamin.

April 16, 2010

Now Ben enjoys playing with running water, no longer content with a tub of water to fill his cups, it must be coming out of a faucet. This game is fun when I happen to be running the tap for whatever reason, but then Ben wants to keep playing and gets mad when I turn it off. Luckily, I found this super awesome toy that you stick to the side of the tub and it pumps up the water and has a continuous flow. It distracts Ben so much that I can dump water on his head during his bath and he doesn't care!

April 15, 2010

Ben was mad at me this morning and threw a mini tantrum. He was laying on the couch crying and nothing I did calmed him until I turned on the Wiggles. He immediately stopped crying and proceeded to lay there in his newborn frog leg position for like 10 minutes mesmerized.

April 14, 2010

Today's picture was supposed to feature Ben in his amber teething necklace. I was going to blabber on about how Ben's teething and it seems like he has 6 teeth coming in at once. But instead, I want to focus on how Ben is purposely leaning so that he can see the tv. I apparently was in his way. Haha.

April 13, 2010

Lately there hasn't been anyone to skype with Ben when he wants, but I figured out how to just turn on the webcam in hopes that seeing himself would suffice. Yeah, no dice, but hey, maybe now I can get a picture of Ben and me smiling at the same time... which uh obviously didn't work this time.

April 12, 2010

Ben is really into playing with water. This usually involves him filling up a cup and then dumping it out in front of him and then taking his hand and swishing it in the water. Not so good as an indoor game.

It was sunny out in the AM, so I took Ben's paddling pool and filled it with some water. I gave Ben a cup expecting him to do the same outside as he does inside, but instead he grabbed the hose and pointed it in the pool. Yay copying. He did eventually get bored of holding the hose there and did play a little with the water... I think next time I'll just get a bucket.

In this space will be a picture of Ben at the Wiggles movie!... as soon as I find the camera...

Camera found!

The Wiggles movie was amazing... more than amazing. It was basically a showing of the concert they just did. All the kids were dancing and shouting "Wake up Jeff!" and singing. And the Wiggles told jokes that were funny for the parents. It was so.much.fun.

Ben watched for about 30 minutes and then decided to climb up and down the stairs the rest of the time... except he didn't want to crawl, he wanted us to hold his hands and walk-- good for Ben, bad for Rick's and my back.

We are definitely going to their next concert. I can't wait!

April 10, 2010

So apparently Robeez are intended for indoor use, not outdoor. I find this amusing since I usually only put Ben's Robeez/Fauxbeez on him when we were going outside to play... OOPS. Anyway, Ben is not a fan of trying to walk in the tanbark or grass or sand in his Robeez, so we decided to get him real shoes now that it's warm out and we've been going to the park and out in the garden quite often. Ben doesn't walk by himself yet, but he pulls up and walks holding onto stuff (me) so we figured he needed something more while outside anyway.

I present Ben's first pair of real shoes!

Ben was very pleased with his new shoes. I'm excited that he's so excited about them. He looks like a little boy with them on though and that makes me a little sad inside.

Ben in a box... liberating his baby toys that were going to go in storage.

April 8, 2010

Yay! Ben kissing his Cabbage Patch doll.

When I first bought the doll and showed it to him, Ben would shake his head "no" at it. And if I tried to give it to him, he would take it and throw it behind him.

Then I started to hug the doll and kiss it. I would give it to him and he continued his head shaking and throwing, but then one day, he kissed it too! And now sometimes when he sees it, he'll kiss it... and then throw it.

This is Ben's Harry Potter scar.

I have no idea how, but he has this huge scratch all the way across his forehead and then a smaller vertical one above his left eye. He got it last night while playing his open-and-close-the-kitchen-door game. He didn't cry so I'm not sure when or how or why it happened. I don't think he even noticed. It was all red and puffy when he first got it, but thankfully by morning, it was only somewhat noticeable. Ugh.

April 6, 2010

Ben and I explored the big jungle gym today at the playground. Ben's favorite part was that corner and calling out "Aaaaaah" to the other kids there. We attempted to go up the ladder, but the rungs were too far apart for the young Benjamin and I was too weak to lift him any higher.

Tooth No. 5 has arrived! Ben's upper right side incisor!

I took Ben outside to ride around on his tricycle (which I guess actually isn't a tricycle since it has 4 wheels) but he was much more interested in crawling back and forth along the pathway and up and down the stairs to the house. After a while he started crawling with one leg up... turns out he had a splinter in his knee. :(

April 4, 2010

Happy Easter!

In between our Easter festivities, we went to the drugstore to buy some necessities and we saw this inflatable uh wrestling ring (?) and we had to get it. Ben helped Daddy set it up, but once it was time to bounce around, he was not a fan. Rick and I had a blast though!

April 3, 2010

Here is Ben in his hedgehog hat.

We went to the beach today and since it was chilly, Ben didn't mind wearing his hat! I think he actually liked it.

And apparently it can be worn two ways... according to a certain parent who was completely oblivious to the fact that there is a face on one side. Haha. Still hilarious either way. I wonder how long I can put hats with ears on Ben... And no, Grandpa, I should not have already stopped.

I noticed a boo boo on Ben's hand...

'

So we cleaned it off and put a bandaid on it...

Yeah, he didn't like that one bit.

April 1, 2010

This is my copycat picture of one that my cousin Mike took of his kids pushing a shopping cart from the bottom. I did not fully appreciate the hilarity of it until Ben started doing it a couple days ago.

Ben doesn't like to sit in the cart for long, so before I was a bad parent and would have him hang out in the big part (just like the cart says not to do). But a couple days ago, he wanted down, so I put him on the ground and he started pushing the cart! Shopping is about 100 times easier now that he's discovered this. Hooray!
