But then one day (maybe a few weeks ago?) I unlocked the door and let him pull the key out. He was thrilled and looks forwards to helping lock and unlock the door every time we go out. No more crying when it's time to come inside!

This was our first time at the Play Palace and here Ben is in the toddler area. They had play houses, climbers, slides, bouncy castles, and this fun ramp thing that reminded me of that those hills at miniature golf... Ben loved that climber the best. Since it was a hit with the Benjamin, I think we'll be going back many times over the summer. Fun, fun, fun.

In Kerrisdale they're having "Kerrisdale Carnival Days," a lovely 2 day event that has sidewalk sales, carriage rides, balloons, face painting, parades, food, and a bunch of other stuff so says a poster I read... except most of it's tomorrow. There were a couple of people selling food so Ben and I partook in the delicious deep fried goods.
Here Ben is having a corndog. We also had a "rice ball" which in the middle was meat spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese, surrounded by rice, and then fried-- I was fascinated.

Ben is sitting on this digger/excavator/backhoe, which he thankfully did not fall off of while I took the picture. He wasn't really interested in playing with it though and frankly neither was I because it required way too much coordination and it was crazy heavy.

If there's an empty one around, Ben (and Smudge) love to hang out in them. Ben and I have come up with this game where I smoosh my face into the side and he pushes me away... yeah, that's pretty much it, but Ben loves it and laughs hysterically, so it's a good game in my book.

Ben did an awesome job standing by himself for this picture... not that he really enjoyed being let go of, but he is much more agreeable to the whole standing alone thing when he has his shoes on.
Oh and Ben apparently can now kick a ball-- I have to hold his hands of course, but he totally swings his leg back and kicks. It only took one day! Must be all that watching soccer on tv with Dad. Who says tv is bad for babies... pshaw.

Beach, beach, sandy beach, feel the sand on your feet...
We took Ben for a picnic at the beach today. Ben had so much fun playing with shells in the water, splashing around, pretending to eat sand to see if I was paying attention...
Ben recent interest in water makes me think swimming lessons would finally be something fun for us to do. Hm...

Today's picture was supposed to feature Ben in his amber teething necklace. I was going to blabber on about how Ben's teething and it seems like he has 6 teeth coming in at once. But instead, I want to focus on how Ben is purposely leaning so that he can see the tv. I apparently was in his way. Haha.

It was sunny out in the AM, so I took Ben's paddling pool and filled it with some water. I gave Ben a cup expecting him to do the same outside as he does inside, but instead he grabbed the hose and pointed it in the pool. Yay copying. He did eventually get bored of holding the hose there and did play a little with the water... I think next time I'll just get a bucket.

In this space will be a picture of Ben at the Wiggles movie!... as soon as I find the camera...
Camera found!
The Wiggles movie was amazing... more than amazing. It was basically a showing of the concert they just did. All the kids were dancing and shouting "Wake up Jeff!" and singing. And the Wiggles told jokes that were funny for the parents. It was so.much.fun.
Ben watched for about 30 minutes and then decided to climb up and down the stairs the rest of the time... except he didn't want to crawl, he wanted us to hold his hands and walk-- good for Ben, bad for Rick's and my back.
We are definitely going to their next concert. I can't wait!

I present Ben's first pair of real shoes!
Ben was very pleased with his new shoes. I'm excited that he's so excited about them. He looks like a little boy with them on though and that makes me a little sad inside.

When I first bought the doll and showed it to him, Ben would shake his head "no" at it. And if I tried to give it to him, he would take it and throw it behind him.
Then I started to hug the doll and kiss it. I would give it to him and he continued his head shaking and throwing, but then one day, he kissed it too! And now sometimes when he sees it, he'll kiss it... and then throw it.

This is Ben's Harry Potter scar.
I have no idea how, but he has this huge scratch all the way across his forehead and then a smaller vertical one above his left eye. He got it last night while playing his open-and-close-the-kitchen-door game. He didn't cry so I'm not sure when or how or why it happened. I don't think he even noticed. It was all red and puffy when he first got it, but thankfully by morning, it was only somewhat noticeable. Ugh.

I took Ben outside to ride around on his tricycle (which I guess actually isn't a tricycle since it has 4 wheels) but he was much more interested in crawling back and forth along the pathway and up and down the stairs to the house. After a while he started crawling with one leg up... turns out he had a splinter in his knee. :(

Here is Ben in his hedgehog hat.
We went to the beach today and since it was chilly, Ben didn't mind wearing his hat! I think he actually liked it.
And apparently it can be worn two ways... according to a certain parent who was completely oblivious to the fact that there is a face on one side. Haha. Still hilarious either way. I wonder how long I can put hats with ears on Ben... And no, Grandpa, I should not have already stopped.

Ben doesn't like to sit in the cart for long, so before I was a bad parent and would have him hang out in the big part (just like the cart says not to do). But a couple days ago, he wanted down, so I put him on the ground and he started pushing the cart! Shopping is about 100 times easier now that he's discovered this. Hooray!
